1) This image by Manuel Alvarez Bravo looks to be lit from the left side to add a little bit of light to dark across her body to add to the gloomy, sad mood of the image. I also see that the door or window behind the girl has one set of glass intact while the other one seems to be broken, maybe showing the emptiness that the girl might be feeling as well. The girl in the photo looks to have lost something, and reflecting on what she used to have, but it now gone or broken. She looks a little depressed by the way she is leaning on the railing, and her facial expression has a thinking face, but in a a way that she has lost all hope. But the first thing that I immediately noticed is the railing being leading lines to focus your attention right on the young lady, and not the space beneath her. I feel like this is expressing value i the image, because of the way that lighting exposes her in the dark, but just a little in the light. This is a significant photograph because she is holding such a emotional weight that is obvious to the viewer, and goes along perfectly with the mood of the image. To achieve this kind of technical performance in one's photograph, one must plan this out, and not knowing the date of the photo, I feel like the shutter speed was very slow to allow more light to enter and create the mood with the perfect shutter speed.

2) This photo by Dorothea Lange was set when the sun was to the right of the lady, which would be the left side of the photo when we observe it. I also believe that both the young child and the older woman have their eyes closed in the image, maybe to symbolize being blinded by the light? This looks to be a lady her has lost something, or just started to take on something big, maybe to big for her to handle. She looks like she needs some sort of help, maybe a distress call to show how hard it is for her. This has a hazy look for me, just mysterious because of the surroundings and how baren the landscape is, and makes you really wonder what she is doing in such a forgotten place by many. I feel really bad for her, almost like I want to help her and make add the extra little something she looks like she needs. And when you look at the technical placement of the shot, you can see that the center of the image is equally between the woman and the child. She is placed slightly to the right while the child is places slightly to the left. I believe this exemplifies balance because they are the main focus, and balanced perfectly in the photo with the foreground , while the landscape adds that background. To achieve this shot, Dorothea must have had a fast shutter speed to catch the woman's hair being blow in the wind with no blur, and that was made possible with the among of light there was on the sunny day. She was also facing ninety degrees or so away from the sun to add the lighting that goes along with the photo.

3) This photograph by Doug Ricard is showing the rough life for some people in life. This was shot in extremely high depth of field to add the element of seeing all that there is to offer, as well as the lines that draw your eyes to both the end of the road and to the boys jaywalking across the street. There is a mood of just a regular day in the streets, and that everything is ordinary and normal. I do not see anything out of the ordinary going on in this image, just three boys walking across a street. I don't have any emotion toward this photo because there is nothing to give, nothing special to see. This place looks to be a little bit poor by the looks of the buildings, but all is well. I really like how the photo was taken to the left of the road, but angled in a way that you can see all the way down the road, but my favorite thing about this image is how the one boy in the middle seems to be looking at the Doug Ricard as he takes the photo, and attracts most of the attention in the image. He seems to be the main person in the photo, but the man in green seems to stick out a little bit too. The significance of the image to me is the contrast and movement located in the photo, from the red truck to the green man, they clash to add a nice balance of color while keeping the movement alive. This also must have been a fast shutter speed to get no blur at all on the red truck, and this was made possible by the brightness of that day.

4) This amazing photo by Herbert "Herb" Ritts is a classic homage to the happiness still expressed by this young at heart woman. She is just light up with joy in the photo, and just looking at this wonderful lady makes me feel really good inside. The main focus of light in the photo is on her left side, which is oriented to the right in the photo. I believe Herbert Ritts was a commercial fashion photographer, and this may be showcasing either the earrings or the blazer that this lady is wearing. This image adds a sense of happiness to the life of an older woman, and makes you feel really good inside when you see it. She is also looking to the left of the camera, which entails that she is looks at someone or something different that than the camera itself. But the major thing that sticks out the most for me is the extremely low depth of field for the image, and how her face is in focus while her neck and chest, and even a little of her forehead start to fade out of focus. She is centered in the photo with a white background, which adds a likable lighting and placement scenario to the photograph. There was a pretty fast shutter speed because of the low depth of field, and also an element of texture that adds an acute sense of design for this photo. And out of all the photos that we have to write about this one would have to be my favorite.

5) I remember when this photo was shown to us during a slow shutter speed presentation, and I believe that the photo was taken by Duane Michals, a large figure in the gay community in the 70's. This is a breathtaking photo that showcases a man looking at his own dead body, which seems very difficult to do. Duane must have had such a long shutter speed that he could take a picture of himself on the table as well as standing over the table looking down, and spent enough time doing this so that the time in between never captured enough to be in the photo. There is a little bit of border and wall that goes through Michals on the table, but is not that noticeable in the end result. The mood of the image is an extremely depressing mood because who in their right mind wants to look at their own dead body lying right infront of you. I feel fear for death whenever I look at this photograph, mostly because of the extremely serious face that Michals is making in the photo as he looks down. The balance in this photo is that of a genius because the way that he basically goes from lying down the standing up on 2 different sides of the image looks really nice and fits perfectly together. The lighting in the photo seems to be coming from the right side, which adds amazing shadows that only compliment the balance. I really like this photo, and it makes you think about really serious things, and it feels like it can relate to your life, in some way or another.
